As Australia's mining boom soars, the mining industry continues to face an ongoing crisis: not enough skilled workers on mine sites.
According to the Ernst & Young business risk radar, the skills shortage is one of the major business risks facing the mining and metals sector in 2011 and into 2012. It has fast become one of the industry's major priorities for the next few years. Mining employs about 200,000 people in Australia – about 1.6% of the total workforce. It has been estimated that the resources industry will need more than 150,000 extra workers over the next five years.
The Singleton Mining and OH&S Expo will incorporate mining careers and training for the first time in 2012, providing an exciting springboard for recruiters and trainers and anyone interested in entering the mining industry to network towards addressing the skills shortage and further elevating the mining boom.
Visitors
Thousands of people are expected to visit Singleton Mining and OH&S Expo including local, interstate and international visitors. With key decision makers from the huge Hunter Valley and NSW coal fields, industry and suppliers will attend with real business to be written during the event.
In 2012 it is estimated the show will inject some 4 million dollars into the Singleton region over the week leading up to and including the 3 day event.
